Read the Totalizer First
Many operators watch the live flow rate and ignore the totalizer. That is a mistake. The totalizer shows cumulative volume in liters or cubic meters. The live flow rate only tells you what is passing at one moment.

Reading a Mechanical Meter Dial
Mechanical water meters often have a row of numbers and one or two small dials. The numbers show cubic meters or liters. The small dials show fractions. Read the numeric register from left to right. Do not take the red dials as whole units unless the dial face says liters.
